Understanding Trauma & the Body
When we hear the word trauma, many of us think of a single life-changing event. While trauma can certainly result from experiences like accidents, abuse, violence, or the loss of a loved one, it can also develop more quietly over time.
Living with chronic stress, emotional conflict, caregiving, neglect, bullying, medical procedures, repeated injuries, or simply feeling unsafe for long periods can all affect the nervous system. Every person’s experience is unique, and what is overwhelming for one person may not be for another.
Our bodies are designed to adapt and protect us. Sometimes, however, those protective patterns remain long after the original experience has passed.
This doesn’t mean your pain is “all in your head.”
It means your nervous system, your emotions, and your physical body are deeply connected.
Some people notice this connection as persistent muscle tension, headaches, jaw pain, digestive issues, difficulty relaxing, shallow breathing, fatigue, poor sleep, or pain that seems to move around or has no clear structural explanation. Research also suggests that long-term stress and adverse experiences can influence overall health and may increase the risk of certain chronic conditions by affecting the nervous, immune, and endocrine systems.
Healing doesn’t always mean revisiting the past.
Often, it begins by helping the body feel safe enough to let go of patterns it no longer needs.
My role isn’t to diagnose trauma or provide psychotherapy. Rather, I offer a supportive space where your body can begin to unwind, your nervous system can settle, and healing can unfold at a pace that feels safe and respectful for you.
Whether your pain began with an injury, years of stress, or something you can’t quite explain, you are welcome here.
Come as you are. I’ll meet you there.
